I was talking with an old friend and worries spilled out…the elections, North Korea, Syria, young people being stabbed, illness, recovery, friends being laid off, contracts not being renewed, and the inevitably over long “to do” list.
A coaching offer from me on this could be, first STOP!
Stop what you are doing, take a breath. Then another.
Let’s talk about how to transfer your effort from what you are pre-occupied with.
And to focus on you. “Look.”
“Me.” “My thoughts.” “What is important to me?”
You can pause the worries… money, children, am I doing enough? Cash-flow.
They can be put on hold while you stop and re-group. The washing up can wait.
If you know what your values are…chose one of them. “Listen”
And then, consider three things that you can do, today, to be true to that value. Honour it by doing them.
The value I called on today was, “dependable.” It comes from a need to be as good as my word.
I’m not saying that I am, “dependable”….It’s my knowing the value of being dependable. That it contributes so positively to relationships and getting through. It took me to thinking about the medium and long term picture that I’m working towards. The relationships that I depend on, and which depend on me to be part of them…And, it all looks better from here.
